Saving The World
by
Jean Gittins
So you're off on a mission to "Save the World"
You're part of the Lord's great plan
The God you worship is guiding you
You're the "All American Man"
Well - look at your God most carefully
When he whispers next in your ear
Be sure that he hasn't a horn and a tail
And a guided nuclear spear
So -
you got a shock to your system
When the twin towers blew away
Well I've news for you - in the wider world
Terror happens evr'y day
But the weak will suffer in silence
And the poor ones just struggle on
And it's only the rich who can exercise power
That is, till the power's all gone
So -
Who are you saving the world for?
Not for the likes of they
Swollen bodies and fly - blown eyes
And dying in thousands each day
Who are you planning to give it to
When "Freedom" you finally save
Freedom - to follow the Super Powers
Down to a nuclear grave

Protect and Survive
by
Jean Gittins
Don't go out of the shelter dear
It isn't safe today
The "reading's" high on the meter
And it looks like rain on the way
And you know if you're caught in the open
When the downpour does begin
It can eat its way through your "fallout suit"
And it burns right to your skin.
Stay down here in the dark dear
That's what a shelter's for
We'll take our pills, and I'll tell you a tale
Of the time before the war
When the world was covered in trees and grass
And the children played in the park
And the sun came up, and we called it Day
And it wasn't always dark.
Soon somebody will find us
If we're patient and survive
And they'll take us away to a better place
Where there are some people alive
And we won't have to live in a dugout
And I know it's hard to believe
But the rain will be water not acid
And the air will be fit to breathe.
Don't go out of the shelter dear - it's so much safer
inside
And I know you could be happy to be here
If you just tried
And I realise - to exist like this can't be your idea of fun
You'll admit we couldn't back down my dear
I wonder if we won?
