The Pig on The Wall phenomenon began in Kippax Village aroung 1936. It centred around the Kippax Pram Race which involved people racing around in prams trying to catch the pig which was apparently donated by John Garlick of Maltkiln Farm. The scene was set in an enclosed field on the farm and whoever caught the pig was the winner of the race. The prize of course was the pig itself! There is more to this story I have been told, and I will bring you the details as and when they emerge.

Now for some letters from ex-pats of Kippax who have been flung far and wide around the world for one reason or another.

If you would like to reply to any of the people concerned, E-mail the Webmaster for their details

Dear webmaster,
As a former resident and Kippax lad I feel I must congratulate you and your readers for a fine website which you have put together.I was born and raised in Kippax and although I left the shores of England almost thirty years ago, the Village and it's fine people still hold a special place in my heart. How surprised I was when up on the screen popped a lovely photo of St marys Church, not only was I christened there but as a young lad we had to attend the Church and Sunday School every Sunday without fail.As a misguided teenager many hours was spent hanging around the Bone yard, (much to the disgust of Vicar Darvil) who was continually chasing us away.I recall the Pig on the wall as indeed the Pram race, which I took part in around 1972, Myself and Polly Sharpe; Yes we even got a place too In the first or second place as I recall. Is this still an annual event?
Great to see photos also of Woodalls farm and Butt Hill.Images in my memory that have not faded over time. Well from a Kippicer of old I shall be watching from afar as your website develops and grows.
From Australia I send you my best wishes.
Kindest Regards D.Collinson.

Dear Webmaster,
One idea may be to have a "where are they now?" section.
I was born in Kippax in 1953. My parents/grandparents/aunts and uncles were
all residents from around the Kippax area.
We migrated to Australia in 1960 but returned for a three month holiday in
1978.
My father (now about 76) returns regularly for a holiday nearly every year.
I have always had a keen interest in Kippax even though I have lived in
Australia for most of my life.
I still remember childhood friends from West View Robinson Lane who I caught
up with many years later when we returned for a holiday. Other memories
include the Methodist Church we used to attend near St Mary's and playing in
the Pond Field at the top of West View, going to the movies in a theatre on
the high street and attending school at the bottom of the road where Ronison
lane joins the main road into Kippax.
I would be most interested if the people I grew up with ie. Martin Monks and
Carol Shillitoe (now married but name unknown) are still in the local area..
My father has many old black and white photos of Kippax/Leeds pre 1960 and
next time I see him I will try to scan some and submit them to you..
Anyway just thought I would drop this suggestion for your consideration..
